Privacy Policy

How Your Information is Used

Your privacy is extremely important to us and we do everything we can to protect it.  As the publishers of The Bishop Spong website and weekly essay, progressivechristianity.org gathers personal data — such as name, address, e-mail address etc. — only when you voluntarily submit it to us.  We will never sell, rent or lease this personal information to any third party.  It will not be disclosed in any manner to any person without prior consent, unless otherwise required by law.

All information collected will be added to our database and will be used to send you the weekly Q and A, or weekly Bishop Spong essay.  If you are not already a subscriber of the weekly essay, we may email you to give you the opportunity to do so.  This information may also be used to send out pertinent, periodic mailings that may be of interest to you.   These include, but may not be limited to, newsletters, special offers, fundraising appeals, and information regarding events involving Bishop Spong or progressivechristianity.org.  You can be assured that any mailing you receive will come directly from us, as we simply won’t sell or rent out your personal information.

Updating Your Personal Information

If your personal information – such as email address, postal address or phone number – changes, you may update it anytime by logging into the Bishop Spong website, clicking on  “profile” on the top right corner, and updating the appropriate information.

To change your email address for your weekly subscription, click on your profile link, located at the bottom of every mailing, and change the email address in the appropriate box.  You may also contact us directly by telephone or postal mail at the contact information listed on the bottom of the essay or on the johnshelbeyspong website.

How Your Information is Used and Protected

When you submit information either through the Web site or at an event, your information is protected both on and off-line.   All personal data entered is done through a secure (https) connection.

When you subscribe to Bishop Spong’s weekly essay, your credit card information will be collected and stored with Paypal using industry standard security protocols that prevent anyone but you knowing your credit card account number. This is to ensure your ongoing access to this resource.  For your convenience, we will automatically update the expiration date on your credit card.  You will only have to contact us with changes to your credit card.

We will continue to auto-bill your credit card account until such time as you cancel your subscription.  This can be done by logging in to your account and clicking “cancel.”  This deactivates our auto-billing system and you will no longer receive the email essays nor will you continue to be billed.

The charge will be listed as SPONGNEWS or SPONGNEWSLETTER on your credit card bill.

Any refunds will require a $2 service charge to be processed.  Refunds are available for a period of 60 days after a charge.
